Method of forming a fibre reinforced composite material

A method of forming a fibre reinforced composite comprises the steps of: (a) forming a fibre preform by superposing and needling fibre plies together; and (b) densifying the preform by introducing a matrix-constituting material, wherein before the end of the needling process a powder 20, preferably a solid resin or solid filler, is dusted [Figure 1B] onto the surface of at least one of the fibre plies. The preform may be densified by chemical vapour infiltration (C.V.I.) or by a liquid technique.
