PURPOSE: A steering angle detecting apparatus is provided to measure a rotating angle of a steering wheel without delaying time by supplying an initial signal with respect to various reference angles through forming a plurality of reference slots on a rotating disc of the steering angle detecting apparatus. CONSTITUTION: A steering angle detecting apparatus includes a steering angle detecting section(100) and an electronic control unit(200), which receives a detecting signal from the steering angle detecting section(100) and calculates a rotating direction and rotating angle of a steering wheel. The steering angle detecting section(100) has a rotating disc(110) formed with a plurality of angle measuring slots(111) and reference measuring slots(112), and a photo-interrupt device(130), which detects a digital signal when light passes through the angle measuring slots(111) and reference measuring slots(112) or light is shielded. The photo-interrupt device(130) has an initial signal generator(131) and an angular signal generator(132).
