PURPOSE: A valve mechanism of an engine is provided to optimize a fuel consumption ratio, performance and exhaust gas of the engine by linearly varying a valve lift according to an operating condition of the engine. CONSTITUTION: A cam(11) makes contact with a roller bearing(13) provided at one side end of a cam follower(12) so that one side end of the cam follower is moved up and down as the cam rotates. A valve gap adjuster(14) is coupled to the other end of the cam follower. A valve cap(15) making contact with a valve(16) is coupled to a front end of the valve gap adjuster. A slot(17) is formed lengthwise the cam follower. A hinge roller(18) is rotatably moved within the slot so that a hinge point of the cam follower is moved. A rotating shaft(19) of the hinge roller is coupled to a piston, which is driven by means of a hydraulic cylinder.
