Flow homogenizer, has a tubular inlet and a flow diverting surface to invert core and outer layers of fluid flow. A tube(1) with a circular cross-section has an inlet (2) at one end whose axis coincides with that of pipeline inside which it is located. The tube axis is at 3-45 deg to the pipeline axis and the far end of the tube forms an angled outlet (4) directed at the inner wall of the pipeline. Adjacent to the angled outlet is a cover-like flow displacement surface (5). On the inlet tube there is an external flow layer diverting surface (6) which continues forward to form a tubular outlet (7) with an axis centered on the pipeline axis. Independent claims are made for: (a) a process for inverting and homogenizing polymer melts or high viscosity polymer solutions by directing the central core flow of the fluid via the tube inlet (2) and angled outlet (4) onto the pipeline wall while the outer layer of the initial flow is directed inwards via the diverting surface (6) and out through the tube outlet (7) to form a central core layer; and (b) uses of the flow homogenizer for production of filaments or fibers, films or foils.
