PURPOSE: A device and method for a serial communication interface is provided to read and write necessary data using one standardized cable conveniently by synchronizing and transmitting an ID and data communication control information with respect to a control-objected local board with a clock according to data in a CPU board. CONSTITUTION: A CPU board(3) outputs control information for a data read/write and a data serial/parallel process to a target board. An interface unit(4a) is operated in accordance with the control information output in the CPU board(3). The interface unit(4a) executes a data read/write and a data serial/parallel process and is loaded in the target board. A serial cable(5) connects the CPU board(3) to the interface unit(4a) of the target board and transmits the control information. The serial cable(5) includes an address line, a data line, and a clock signal line for transmitting the control information.
