The combustion device for burning combustibles is provided with a combustible reservoir (3), a device (4) for transporting fluid combustibles from the reservoir (3) to a combustion place by capillary action, an ignition device (7) disposed at the place of combustion, and an ignition control (11, 13) coupled to the ignition device (7). A wick, for example, is used as a capillary transport device. The ignition device (7) comprises an electric heating mechanism which is arranged so as to heat a portion of the combustible to the point where it is transformed into a gaseous state of aggregation, and to ignite a portion of the combustible that has been transformed into a gaseous state of aggregation. Upon receiving an input signal, the ignition control (9) causes the combustible to ignite. A resistance wire is an example of a heating mechanism entering into contact with the combustible emerging at the upper end of the wick.
