PURPOSE: A discharge lamp and headlights for a vehicle are provided to form different distribution of rays by switching between two lighting functions in an easy method while maintaining accurate positioning of a discharge vessel. CONSTITUTION: A discharge lamp has a discharge container(16) for discharging gas. A moving member(20) movable between at least two positions is provided to switch over different light distribution. The moving member comprises at least one optically active element(30), which is preferably a lens, and the element generates an image of a gas discharge(17), which is moved away from an actual position of the discharge. A switchover between two light distributions is possible by a movement of the moving member between the two positions in the headlight, and upon the switchover to each region of a reflector, the gas discharge is seemingly moved to thus generate different light distributions. The moving member is, preferably, an outer bulb of the discharge lamp, on which the lens is arranged and which is rotatable on an optical axis. |
