A polymerized and finally hydrogenated diene used as an inner stabilizer for hydrogenated styrene polymer decisively improves its thermal stability, and the hydrogenated polymer, in which a diene is used as comonomer in its polymerization, shows no significant decrease in polymer mol. wt. at higher temperatures. Dienes can also be used for thermal stabilization in the preparation of hydrogenated vinylcyclohexane.
