An ignition transformer has a ring-core with an air-gap in which is arranged a permanent magnet and where, on either side of the air-gap in a region along the peripheral direction corresponding to a length equal to once or up to twice the diameter of the cross-section of the ring-core, are positioned neither primary- nor secondary-winding turns.
