The cleaner rides the rails on wheels (2) and each U-channel is allotted a plate-shaped brush (3) to make contact with the rail face, the brushes rotating opposite ways on the two sides. The brushes are carried by the wheels (1) via gearing (7) and a guide roller engages the rail gap (9) and sprung guide rollers (5) to make contact with the U-channel floor (6). The brushes are set at a slant and can be raised as required.
