PURPOSE: A magnetic recording medium is provided to improve audio characteristic by using specific ferroelectric powder. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic recording medium has a magnetic film formed in such a manner that magnetic paint containing ferroelectric powder is coated on a non-magnetic base. The magnetic recording medium contains Si/Al surface-treated cobalt magnetite as the ferroelectric powder. The cobalt magnetite has a specific surface area of 30-32 m2/g, coercive force of 700-710 Oe, and saturated magnetization of 84 emu/g. Si content of the Si/Al surface-treated cobalt magnetite is 1.1 - 1.2 weight% and Al content is 0.12-0.14 weight%.
