To consolidate material structure of a curved or shaped pipe (2), by subjecting the interior (14) to high fluid pressure, the pipe is clamped externally wholly or partially to maintain its geometry. Mechanical resistances (4) are fitted in place at the outer mantle surface of the pipe. The pipe has a thick wall (15), where the ratio of inner to outer diameter is at most 2:3, preferably 1:2.
