摘要 PURPOSE: A method of efficiently controlling call admission for variable bit rate traffic in an asynchronous transfer mode is provided to estimate an actual cell loss rate in all wanted buffer sizes without information related to each input traffic characteristic parameters. CONSTITUTION: The mean and a variance of an input traffic arrival rate in a cell area are estimated. A cell loss rate is estimated by Markov Modulated Poisson Process source modeling the mean and the variance. Another cell loss rate is estimated by using a virtual buffer in a burst area. An actual cell loss rate is estimated by applying an actual buffer size to the calculated cell loss rate. A transition point(601) where inclinations of curves expressing the cell loss rates of the two areas become equal is decided and a hybrid curve which can be applied to the cell area and the burst area by connecting the two curves is obtained.
