The invented method for assembling a multi-piece absorbent article by successive connection of pieces in individual assembly stations is characterized in that a chassis (22, 102), comprising a topsheet (103), a backsheet (104) joined to said topsheet (103), and an absorbent core (105) positioned between said topsheet (103) and said backsheet (104), is fed to a first assembly station (120) at a first velocity (V1). An ear web (122) is fed to a second assembly station (130) at a second velocity (V2), which is less than the first velocity (V1). Simultaneously, an adhesive tape substrate (126) is fed to the second assembly station (130) at a third velocity (V3), which is less than the second velocity (V2). The adhesive tape substrate (126) is cut into individual tape tabs (36). The individual tape tabs (36) are then bonded to the ear web (122) at the second assembly station (130). The ear web (122) having the individual tape tabs (36) bonded thereto is then fed to the first assembly station (120) where it is cut into individual ear pieces (30), which are then bonded to the chassis (22, 102) to form a multi-piece absorbent article (20). |
