Method for testing the quality of a conductor (1), made of a number of aluminum alloy wires, whereby an alternating magnetic field or voltage is applied to the conductor. The resulting Eddy currents act as a measure of the quality of the oxide layer on the constituent wires and thus indicate the suitability of the cable for use in a high or power current coil. The invention also relates to a corresponding device.
