The device has a locking ratchet with symmetrical normal teeth (31) on one component, meshing with a second components. One or more additional non-symmetrical tooth (39) is located next to the normal tooth row, esp. next to the innermost of the normal teeth. The outer flank of the additional tooth is trimmed, and in the case of several additional teeth, the degree of trimming increases with decreasing relative distance to the bearing journal (13) of the locking ratchet. The device is esp. for locking a fitting to adjust the inclination of a seat backrest.
