Cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical preparations, useful e.g. for skin or body care, comprise new or known 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol monoesters as emollients, having both lipophilic and hydrophilic properties

The use of 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol monoesters (I) in cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical compositions is new. Some of the esters (I) are new compounds. Independent claims are also included for: (1) Cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical preparations containing 0.1-40 wt. % (I); (2) New esters of formula (I'); and (3) Preparation of (I'). R<1> = saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched 6-30C alkyl or aromatic group.
