The press feed (10) delivers strip-like metal stock material (7) in incremental lengths to a press (11) where the material passes through one or more dies that perform stamping operations. A drive force is applied to a feed roller (14) which rotates cooperatively with a second feed roller (16) which applies a motive force to the stock material. The drive force is supplied by a servomotor (13) which is integral with a feed roll shaft (18) with a sensor (4) determining the position of this shaft. The action of the servomotor is to drive the stock material through the feed rolls in the required intermittent manner. The feed rolls clamp and pull the stock material from a supply source such as a coil. The operation is controlled by a microprocessor.
