Automotive piston engine crankshaft mass balancing unit has supplementary oil pump

An automotive piston engine has a mass balance forming part of a second order mass balance gear. the mass balance is esp. coupled to the crankshaft via a gear. The mass balance unit has a first balance shaft linked to a second mass balance shaft via a gear cog-stage. An oil pump located in the oil sump is coupled to the second balance shaft. The unit has esp. a supplementary oil pump (2) which may be switched on and off and which is esp. linked to the first balance shaft (3).
