PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of initially filling ink capable of removing an air in a sub-tank in an inkjet recorder and to provide an inkjet recorder having the sub-tank. SOLUTION: There is disclosed a method of initially filling the ink in an ink passage from a main tank 41 to an inkjet head 26 through the sub-tank 67. This method comprises a liquid conveying process for conveying the ink from the main tank 41 to the sub-tank 67, a sucking process for sucking an air and the ink in the sub-tank 67 from an ink nozzle of the inkjet head 26 after a downstream end of a first ink passage 128 (a) is closed, and a filling process for filling a predetermined amount of the ink in the ink passage by conveying the ink from the main tank 41 and sucking the ink from the ink nozzle after opening the first ink passage 128 (a).
