<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of conventional telescopic sticks: that a mechanism for adjusting the length of and locking the stick is too complicated to be contained within the pole of the stick; if the mechanism is sized to be contained in the pole, the strength of the stick needed to support the user's weight becomes insufficient even though it is the most important factor of the stick; adding a complex mechanism while maintaining strength results in weight and size that are too large to carry; and a conventional telescopic stick functions only as either a palm-supported stick or a side-supported stick and not as both, with its length varied to match the user's height. <P>SOLUTION: The grip of the stick consists of upper and lower sections, with the upper section disposed at the upper end of an inner cylinder to serve as side support when the stick is extended and used as a side-supported stick.
