<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst enhanced in the cleaning capacity of methane in exhaust gas by realizing the discharge of oxygen due to a change in the oxidation number of a carrier and the highly dispersed supporting of an active species for the combustion cleaning of methane at the same time. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust gas cleaning catalyst is obtained by supporting a noble metal on manganese oxide having a hollandite type crystal structure.
