PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nematocide which can control or exterminate nematodes damaging field crops, trees, and the like, and does not affect the field crops, the trees, useful microorganisms, and the like, and to provide a soil-activating agent which can inhibit the propagation of microorganisms such as nematodes without affecting useful microorganisms in soil and promote the growth of plants. SOLUTION: This nematocide is characterized by containing one or more substances selected from plant essential oils, plant essential oil ingredients, plant dry distillates, boric acid or its salt, and tannin as active ingredients, or the soil-activating agent is characterized by containing one or more substances selected from plant essential oils, plant essential oil ingredients, plant dry distillate, boric acid or its salt, and tannin as active ingredients.
