PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent durability of a clutch from being worsened by inertia torque generated resulting from an engine speed change in abrupt engagement start by N→D or N→R shift. SOLUTION: When the drive switching (N→D or N→R shift) is conducted by a shift lever and when a clutch C1 or C2 is engaged to connect a power transmission route, speed lowering control of the engine itself is conducted by closing control of an intake valve in S4 or S6 in the abrupt engagement start in which the engine speed NE exceeds a prescribed value or more, so as to lower the engine speed NE forcibly, and the inertia torque generated resulting from the engine speed change is thereby reduced by a reduction amount therein, to reduce a load in the engagement of the clutch C1 or C2. Since the intake valve directly controls an intake to a cylinder, responsiveness is quick compared with the case where an electronic throttle valve provided in an intake piping is closure-controlled, and the load in the engagement of the clutch C1 or C2 is effectively reduced thereby.
