PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a sewing machine for decorative stitch to comfortably perform sewing operations by preventing a spreader from disturbing the sewing operations when decorative stitch is not performed. SOLUTION: A spreader mechanism 10 is provided with rotating parts (a first rotating part 161 and a second rotating part 162) which rotate in synchronization with the reciprocating motion of a needle bar and spreaders (a first spreader part 181 and a second spreader part 182) which are detachably held by the rotating parts. The rotating parts are provided with a positioning part (a first protrusion 1612, a second protrusion 1622, a first rotation restricting piece 1613 and a second rotation restricting piece 1623) for positioning the spreader parts in holding them. Accordingly, only by fitting the spreaders to the rotating parts and holding them, the direction and the length are determined by the positioning means and the workability of fitting operations is dramatically improved.
