PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a braking controller capable of obtaining a deceleration according with a driver's intention while reflecting engine brake force, a deceleration on an upward slope or an acceleration on a downward slope. SOLUTION: In this controller, a time from the accelerator-off to the brake-on is measured. When the time is not less than an engine brake convergence time, a vehicle decelerationαV at that time is set to a brake operation-preceding decelerationα<SB>0</SB>, an engine brake decelerationα<SB>eng</SB>at that time is set to an engine brake deceleration reference valueα<SB>eng0</SB>, a difference between the engine brake deceleration reference valueα<SB>eng0</SB>and the actual engine brake decelerationα<SB>eng</SB>is added to the brake operation-preceding decelerationα<SB>0</SB>to generate a reference decelerationαB, and a difference value between the vehicle decelerationαV and the reference decelerationαB is fed back to calculate a braking torque command value T<SB>d-com</SB>. Thereby, the acceleration/deceleration just before the braking operation is reflected, a change of engine brake torque under control is considered, and the deceleration according with the driver's intention can be obtained.
