Title cpds (I) useful as insecticides and fungicides and esp. useful in the control of cryptogames (where R is Ph or 4-8C alkyl and one of X is halogen and the other is H or halogen) may be prepd from the hydroxybenzonitrile and R3BuHal. Compns are pref. in the form of coating formulations contg a resin binder pref. an oleoresinous binder or linear addition polymer obtd by vinyl polymerisation of monoethylenically unsatd cpds.
