<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately, conveniently, safely and quantitatively determining a cation in a solution. <P>SOLUTION: Optical detection is performed by adding to a solution containing the cation a linear polynucleotide containing a telomere repetitive sequence and having a donor at one end portion and an acceptor at another end portion. Concretely four guanine molecules hydrogen bonds are formed by adding the linear polynucleotide to the solution containing the cation and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between the donor and the acceptor is detected. In the state that the four guanine molecules hydrogen bonds are formed, the distance between the donor and the acceptor is not greater than 100 Å. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
