1298221 Animal feeding appliances M W ALDOUS and J C HITCHCOCK 5 Nov 1969 54354/69 Heading AIM [Also in Division B1] Apparatus for supplying mixed liquid and solid foodstuff to feeding points 5a-5n comprises a mixing vessel 1 with level sensor 9, solids feed unit 7 and liquid supply unit 8, a pump 3 for delivering mixed foodstuff to the feeding points, and a control system which, in use, causes units 7, 8 to deliver in a cyclic manner predetermined increments to the vessel according to the level of liquid in the vessel and enables predetermined increments of foodstuff to be supplied to each feeding point. An auger 2 may be used to mix the contents of vessel 1. Feed unit 7 may be an auger feed unit, and liquid supply unit 8 may be a pump. Operation. When the level of liquid in vessel 1 falls below the lower tip of the sensor, relay 10 is actuated and timer 11 energised to operate pump 8 for a pre-set time. At the end of this time interval, an output signal from timer 11 triggers timer 12 to operate feed unit 7 for a pre-set time. At the end of this operation, an output signal from timer 12 is fed via line 12b to reset relay 10 and to actuate a selector and switching unit 13, which in association with uniselector 14 and solenoids (not shown), exercises a controlling function in the operation of valves 6a-6n, which control the supply of foodstuff to the feeding points. According to a modification, valves 6a-6n may be manually controlled provided that an indicator or indicators showing the number of cycles of operation of the relay is or are visible from the valve positions so that the operator can determine the period the valves have to remain open for the supply of predetermined increments of foodstuff. |
