The biological purification of water by filtration on an organic bed comprises a stage in which used water or effluent is delivered in a predetermined direction, followed by percolation through a filter bed and a dehydration stage in which air is forced through an aeration system to the rear of the filter bed in the opposite direction to the water flow, with the air flow regulated automatically to maintain a temperature that promotes composting between 25 and 60 degC. The effluents are introduced in pulses or batches that fall onto the filter bed and pass through it by gravity, leaving through a drainage system. The procedure can also incorporate an intermediate aeration stage for the filter bed, which is contained in a module (1) made from an impermeable material not subject to deterioration and contains one or more plants (6) grown from rhizomes. The effluent feed (50) is located at the top of the module, while its base contains drains (4) covered by a material that is permeable to water and retains fine particles, linked to a manifold. The filter medium (2) is of tree bark mixed with natural sphagnum peat, with a bottom layer of pebbles or pozzolana.</p> |
