The tyre support consists of a rigid aluminium or plastic ring made up of two or more curved sectors (20) fixed to the inside of a non-standard one-piece wheel rim (1) which has a second peripheral cavity (17) separated from its first tyre-fitting cavity (11) by an intermediate rib (19). The support has an outer rubber tread to make contact with the inner surface of a deflated tyre, and each sector has a radial inner portion designed to fit in the second cavity, and is held in place by fixings with wedges (27) and fastenings (30). The wedges, which can overlap the edges of two contiguous sectors, are made from steel, aluminium or reinforced plastic and have curved outer edges of varying radius so they can be rotated to engage with the second cavity. |
