PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device capable of selecting a PLL tracking speed optimum to each of signals depending on whether a video signal displayed at present is the standard signal or the non-standard signal. SOLUTION: The video display device provided with a digital processing section (including a memory) is provided with a standard signal/non-standard signal detection section 11, which changes each filter circuit constant (time constant) of a write clock generation PLL section 9 and a read clock generation PLL section 10 on the basis of the result of detection to thereby select the PLL tracking speed respectively optimum to the case of the standard signal such as a reproduction video signal when an ordinary television broadcast program is received and the case of the non-standard signal such as a VTR reproduction signal in which a horizontal phase shift such as VTR skew is expected thereby lessening the influence of a curve on a picture caused by the response of the clock generating PLL section and improving the display quality for both the standard and the non-standard signals.
