PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type fixing device capable of peeling paper from a fixing belt while maintaining image quality and surface properties. SOLUTION: This belt fixing device has the fixing belt and a heating and pressing part forming a nip part with a pair of rolls and holding, heating and pressing a recording medium in the nip part. The recording medium is peeled at a peeling part after being moved while keeping contact with the fixing belt. The device is also equipped with a cooling device for cooling a fixing part at a specified cooling part between the heating and pressing part and the peeling part. The cooling device is equipped with a heat absorption means having exhaust ports at both ends in the width direction of the fixing belt, a suction port at a part other than both ends and absorbing heat while keeping contact with the fixing belt at the cooling part, and a ventilation means for sucking air from the suction port and exhausting the air from the exhaust ports at both ends.
