INTERLAMINAR STRENGTH IMPROVER AND METHOD OF PRODUCING COUCHED PAPER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interlaminar adhesive that is used for simply and inexpensively producing multilayer couched paper and to realize a same level of the interlaminar strength even when the amount of addition is reduced 1/5-1/10 of starch because the particle diameter of the interlaminar strength improver is not fine as that of polyion complex or emulsion but is at the same level of grain size as that of starch and only small amount of the interlaminar strength improver is eluted together with water at the dehydration press part or the suction part. SOLUTION: One or more kinds of ionic monomer selected from specific monomers or a combination thereof with a copolymerizable nonionic monomer (a monomer mixture) are aqueous solution-polymerized or dispersion-(co) polymerized in an aqueous salt solution in the presence of a high polymer dispersant to form an ionic polymer. The resultant ionic polymer is brought into contact with inorganic particles to form a complex which is used as an interlaminar strength improver. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
