<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spool gripper that can be attached to and detached from one of the flanges of a spool, and to provide a spool handling unit equipped with the gripper and a method of handling the spool using the gripper. <P>SOLUTION: This spool gripper is coupled with either one of the flanges on both sides of the spool wound with a semiconductor device bonding wire. This gripper is provided with an internal section which accepts a spool holder when a spool is fit in the spool holder, a coupled portion having a larger diameter than the internal section has and coupled with the peripheral edge section of the flange, and an external section having a larger diameter than the coupled portion has.
