PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure linearity of a rail in a short time. SOLUTION: The rail measuring device is provided with a measurement fitting 11, a fixture 12 supporting the measurement fitting 11 on a vertex face 13 where a wheel of a rail 3 guiding a wheel of a measurement carriage moving a ship model floating on a water surface 9 contacts and rotates, and a displacement sensor 21 fixed to the measurement fitting 11. The displacement sensor 21 measures a vertical interval between the displacement sensor 21 and the water surface 9. A horizontal degree of the rail 3 is measured by measuring vertical displacements of a plurality of points of the vertex face 13 of the rail 3 on the basis of the water surface 9 where the ship model is floating. By using the water surface 9, there is no need to newly prepare a water surface horizontal plane, and measurement can be carried out in a short time. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
