<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate which realizes the quarter wavelength in a wide wavelength region and which can be made into a thin layer, and in particular, which is adaptable for a liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: The polarizing plate contains a polarizing film and one optical retardation film having 100 to 125 nm retardation (Re450) measured at 450 nm wavelength and 120 to 160 nm retardation (Re590) measured at 590 nm wavelength and satisfying the relation of ä(Re590)-(Re450)}≥2 nm. The optical retardation film is made of a polycarbonate resin prepared by copolymerizing a bisphenol derivative (A) comprising at least a fluorine skeleton, α,ω-alkylene skeleton or crosslinked cyclic hydrocarbon skeleton and a bisphenol derivative (B) having none of fluorine skeleton, α,ω-alkylene skeleton or crosslinked cyclic hydrocarbon skeleton. The slow phase axis in the plane of the optical retardation film crosses the transmission axis of the polarizing film. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
