<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of accurate image alignment. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus, which transfers and composites visible toner images formed by developing processes and then fixes and outputs the image, has a first composition means that composites an image developed by a first developing unit in response to an image transfer start signal provided for the image transfer body and a transfer image transferred by the first developing unit. The image forming apparatus also has a second composition means that composites an image developed by a second developing unit and a transfer image transferred by the second developing unit. The apparatus further has a means for detecting the phase of the image transfer start signal and the phase of the output signal of the first composition means, and a means for detecting the phase of the image transfer start signal and the output signal of the second composition means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
