摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope having the excellent efficiency of using light and having the excellent resolving power in observation with an optical system of simple composition by forcing pumping light and erasing light to progress consistently on the same optical axis before arriving at a sample surface without branching their optical paths. <P>SOLUTION: The laser beam from a laser beam source 1 is made incident on a wavelength conversion element 2, by which a fundamental wave and a double wave thereof are coaxially obtained. These beams are made incident on a phase modulation element 4 from which the double wave is emitted without beam shaping and the fundamental wave is phase modulated to be made weaker in the intensity of the central part of the beam than that of the peripheral part and is emitted. The fundamental light is condensed as the erasing light and the double wave as the pumping light by a beam-condensing optical system 8 to a sample 9 for observation, by which the excitation of the molecules in the sample 9 for observation from a base state to a first electronic excitation state is caused by the pumping light and the transition thereof from the first electronic excitation state to another electronic state is caused by the erasing light.
