Label for marking food product package with date of first opening incorporates layer of transfer or carbon paper so pen is not required

The label consists of at least two layers of paper (10, 11) held one on top of the other by a low strength adhesive strip (12) along one edge. The top layer (10) is of transfer paper, so that markings on it are displayed clearly on the bottom layer, which has an adhesive backing (13) protected by a layer of film (14). Both layers are printed to show where the day and month of opening should be marked. A variant can use a sheet of carbon paper between the layers. The labels can be kept in a container where food is normally stored, and when the consumer opens a package he/she makes a note of the day and month of opening on the top layer of a label with any available implement, or with a finger nail, detaching and discarding the top layer and sticking the bottom one marked with the date to the package.
