PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a confocal microscope in which the efficiency of using light can be enhanced and the shorter time for photographing can be achieved. SOLUTION: This confocal microscope has a lamp 1 and multislits 2 and a plurality of linear bright-lines from the multislits 2 are scanned by a galvanometer 4. The reflected light from a sample 6 is detected by a two-dimensional array photodetector 7. An image is formed by using only the data of the pixels of an illuminated region 71 in this two-dimensional array photodetector 7. As a result, the confocal image can be formed.
