An internal engine is operated according to operational parameters such as, for example, the speed (nmot) of a crankshaft, the temperature (Tmot) of the internal combustion engine and/or the temperature (Taev) of the intake air. A temperature (Taevk) of the intake air in the combustion chamber (16) is obtained in an at least approximate manner on the basis of a detected or modelled temperature (Taev) of the intake air in an area remote from the combustion chamber. In order to simplify programming, the temperature of the intake air in the combustion chamber (16) is determined on the assumption that the intake air has a modelled or detected initial temperature (Taev), that the intake air enters into thermal contact with a typical component (22) during a typical contact period (tkontakt) for a type of internal combustion engine (10) and an operational state of the internal combustion engine (10), and the typical component has a modelled or detected temperature (Tev). |
