SOLAR POWERED PUMP

Electrically (DC) actuated linear drice pumps and pump systems suitable for downhole/subterranean use, adapted to be powered by (e.g.) solar power. In preferred embodiments, a piston member is connected to an outer pump casing by an elastic diaphragm. An electromagnet is located inside the casing on at least one side of the piston. Energising the electromagnet causes the piston (or an actuator coupled to the piston) to be attracted towards the electromagnet. When the electromagnet is deenergised, the piston returns to a rest position by the elastic properties of the diaphragm. A pumping chamber with inlet and outlet valves is defined within the casing on the other side of the piston. Alternatively, electromagnets may be provided on both sides of the piston and energised alternately. The operation of the pump may be enhanced or augmented by an induced flow system in the outlet path.
