<p>Either a vehicle body bracket or a column bracket slidably fitted thereto is provided with an impact energy absorption member in the form of a plurality of shock absorption plates disposed at predetermined intervals along the direction in which the collapse stroke proceeds, while the other is provided with a breaking member for successively breaking the shock absorption plates as the collapse stroke proceeds. This arrangement ensures that as the collapse stroke proceeds during the secondary collision, the impact energy absorption members disposed at predetermined intervals are successively broken by the breaking member to absorb the impart energy.</p> |
