An air pump for an aquarium has the pump fitted into a housing which is mounted in an outer housing for sound proofing. The inner housing has a separate cover with an air inlet hole and with a second hole for the outlet duct. The outer housing is provided with an outer cover. The outer housing has a lipped construction to locate a seal while the inner housing has a sound proofing plate secured by the cover.
