The cover (1) is preferably of an octagonal shape and made of corrugated cardboard. The hole (5) in the center facilitates the accommodation of the plant, while the cover (1) inhibits the growth of weeds and protects the soil from getting either too dry or too wet. A slot (6) from the central hole (5) to the outer edge (7) and parallel positioned to the pattern of the cardboard can be used for the application of the device (1) which can be coated with a fertilizer or an insecticide at its lower side.
