<p>An abrasive tool, for electrolytic machining, contg. 1-85% of conducting material, 3-75% of insulating material and 7-65% of binding material is prepd by (a) mixing the conducting and insulating materials with finely divided silica, (b) adding a sugar soln and decomposing it by heating, (c) coating the particles with a finely divided hydrocarbon obtd from pitch by heating to 165 degrees C to remove liquid hydrocarbons, (d) compressing the mixture to obtain a solid piece and (e) heating in an inert atm. to dehydrogenate the hydrocarbons to form a carbon lattice which binds the conductors and insulators. The ratio of conductors to insulators may be varied to form tools of any required conductivity.</p> |
