Alpha-Parvoline (3,5-dimethyl-2-ethyl-pyridine) and other 2,3,5-trisubstd. pyridines are synthesized by mixing an allylamine R-CR'=CH-CH2 n NHm with an alkali metal, a conjugated triene, and opt. an alkylamine (where R and R' are each H, alkyl or aralkyl, and either n = 1, m = 2, or n = 2, m = 1). If R=R'=H, alpha-parvoline results. The products are intermediates in the synthesis of pharmaceutically useful pyridines and stilbazoles. This method gives good yields at ambient temp. and pressure. The prefd. alkali metal is Na, and the prefd. triene is allo-ocimene. or o-dipropenylbenzene.
|
