<p>The present invention provides a prongless setting (10) for mounting a gemstone (24) and a method of manufacturing the same. The setting (10) is in the form of a box-type setting having ,a bottom and four sides. Two arcuate loops (18,20) are provided along the top edges of the box setting (10). A gemstone (24) is placed into the open top of the box and the two arcuate loop members (18,20) are bent over the top of the stone (24) to retain it in the setting (10). The present invention further provides for the method of stamping a blank (12) that is suited for bending into the setting described above. Finally, the present invention provides for forming a chain using a plurality of settings (10) and gemstones (24) that can be further incorporated into a finished piece of jewelry.</p> |
