PURPOSE: An object tracking method by template matching and a device thereof are provided to track the object within the view field accurately by controlling and operating a zoom lens. CONSTITUTION: An object tracking device includes a TV camera(E01) combined with an image input I/F(E05a), a zoom lens(E02) combined with a lens control I/F(E05c), a camera pan and tilt head(E03), an operation unit(E04) combined with an operation input I/F(E05d), an output monitor(E06) combined with an image output I/F(E05f), a warning lamp(E07) combined with an alarm I/F, and a data bus(E05k). An object is detected in comparison between an input image from the image pick-up device having the zoom mechanism and a template image stored in a manner that a first image within a view field of the image pick-up device is stored as a first as the template image, power of the zoom mechanism to be changed is recorded, a second image to be detected is picked-up from the image pick-up device. Then, the size of the template image or the second image is changed based on the changed power of the zoom mechanism, and template matching is performed between the template image and the second image to detect the object. |
